This is a big week in Marathon training! My mileage makes a bump up with a Half Marathon this weekend in addition to more time in the garage box and the Run-Before-The-Sun track series kicks’ off this Friday.
I’m starting Monday with a 10K in an area that I haven’t ran in a long time. Be sure to check out the Monday post to hear about the Area-J Run Club and how it prepared thousands of young men for war.
This week also kicks off the Run-Before-The-Sun track training series. This is an on-track training program that I’ve now been running for almost 2 years. This fall we’ll be focusing on increasing 5K performance. The efforts on the track will be 400m, 600m and 800m in length of varying intensity. In the past this has been a popular program that has lead to great results.
Here’s the breakdown of my weekly miles: Approx 40-miles total.
Monday: 10KM Run in Area-J
Tuesday: Track Intervals in the AM followed by 4mi run in the PM with the club.
Wednesday: 5K with the club
Thursday: 60 minute run for distance.
Friday: 15KM run at an easy pace.
Saturday: 13.1 mile easy run.
It’s time to start moving steel this week on M/W/F/Su. I’m going to start light and low with 5x5 sets with lighter weights. I’m expecting some soreness but I’m not too worried about it affecting my performance on all of these runs.
My work schedule is pretty intense through April of next year and I’m looking for some Marathon’s and Ultra’s 50K/50M for next spring. Let’s hear your recommendations in the comments below.
