I’m going headlong into week 4 of my 17 week training program. There is still a lot of mountain to climb and a lot left to see what I’m capable of. This week has a wet weather pattern but with lows in the 70’s, I don’t mind running in the rain.
Last week I only hit completed one of my planned workouts, which was the 10-mile run. This week I plan on hitting all of my runs plus some additional weight training and supplemental runs with the run club. I’m going to dial my nutrition in this week and ensure I’m properly fueled for my long run on Saturday.
So, here’s my plan for this week:
Week 4 Training Plan:
Run 1: 60 minute run for distance. (Expectation +6 miles)
Run 2: 0.5mi warmup + 1mi (8’30”) / Rest 0.25mi (10’30”) x 3 + 5min Slowdown.
Run 3: 40min Run for Distance (Expectation +4mi)
Long Run: 2 hours of running. (Expectation +12mi)
Supplemental Running: Club Runs on Tuesday (4-miles) and Wednesday (5KM).
Just recently I was driving past Lake Johnson in Raleigh and I was commenting to my wife that there is a trail system that loops around the lake and I’ve yet to run it. Then just a few hours later my friend Dave messages me: “Hey man, want to get in 16 miles on Saturday around Lake Johnson?” Of course I’m in on that! However instead of 16 miles, I’ll be running for 2 hours for distance.
In addition to my running plan I am going to implement weightlifting into the plan. I will be lifting on Monday, Wednesday and Friday at the gym or in the garage. No matter what, it’s time to start moving some steel around.
Completing this training and implementing weight lifting into the mix will require time management and prioritizing my daily tasks and habits. To be successful takes determination, tenacity and discipline.
What competing priorities do you have in your life that conflict with your training plan? How do you prioritize and work through these competing interests?
