I’ve taken a week off of running and working out. I walked last Wednesday for a couple miles but that was it. It’s been a week of work, travel and recovery. I’ve had some time to reflect on what I’ve done, what I didn’t do and what needs to be done going forward.
The running will continue! My focus on running will shift to the half-marathon distance for the foreseeable future. The 13.1 distance is much more feasible for my lifestyle and the time I have available to commit to running. Training for the Marathon was a lifestyle change for me. I was running with the club 2 to 3 times a week then long runs on the weekends which took anywhere from 3 to 6 hours of my day. This was time spent away from my wife and kids. It really does take a “buy in” and support from your family to train for a Marathon.
Will I run another marathon? That’s a great question. The simple answer is yes. Yes, I plan on running another marathon in 2023 but it will be a flat course, close to the ocean and I really need to change some things in my life before taking that on.
You can’t out-run a bad diet. It’s not just a talking point or theory, I’ve proven this time and time again and this last marathon was no different. I started my Marathon training at 228lbs and on race day I was 220lbs. No amount of miles ran can mitigate the detrimental effects of poor nutrition. It was proven again over the course of the last 14 weeks. Yes my mileage improved and my times got better, but simply put moving 220lbs over 26.2 miles was not easy.
Compass Check
Moving forward, I’m going to use this blog as a compass check on my goals while I navigate this life for as long as possible. You may start to see more information about Nutrition, Weightlifting, CrossFit, Rucking and of course Running. It will also encompass my travels across the country and how I stay fit while on the road.
My work in 2023 will take me to the Pacific Northwest, Upstate New York , Texas and The South. I’ll be logging my hotel workouts and how I eat on the road. Hopefully you’ll enjoy these travels and how they juxtapose onto my fitness journey. At every location I usually find a good hiking trail or running location to get in the views of a new state or location.
Hopefully you enjoyed reading this blog during the journey and stay tuned for more.
