Discipline > Motivation
“Motivation is skin deep. I don’t care what your actions are now, when it’s easy. I care about your actions when it’s hard, when the situation is tough.” -T.W.
I listen to a handful of podcasts throughout the week, one of those is Andy Frisella from 1st Phorm. In his condensed version, he says “Not every day is 70 and sunny”. Meaning you need to get out there and do the work. Just keep showing up, do what must be done and you’ll reap the benefits down the road.
It really is that simple, do what must be done to accomplish your goals. How you “feel” that particular morning or how you think you feel should not affect your ability to actually do what must be done. Having discipline will get you further than motivation, especially true because motivation is fleeting! When you have it, you feel great and can tackle the world, when it’s gone you may not feel like taking action on anything. Motivation flows through us in waves, some bigger than others but there is always a trough.
Nobody is coming, rely on yourself.
It’s up to myself to make the appropriate changes to be successful at prolonging my own life and reaching my 2023 goals. Yes, running with friends is better and it certainly helps to have a support structure that facilitates and encourages growth and achievement. However, the daily micro decisions that accumulate to macro changes is 100% up to me.
Talk is cheap and actions speak for themselves. To reach the goals listed below will require consistency in action coupled with discipline and efficiency of movement. I hope you follow along with me through 2023.
