“You’ll never be great if good is enough” - UNK
My year of running really was just “good enough” and I never achieved the greatness I was wanting, the sub 4-hour Marathon. The year was certainly not a failure, I made some great friends, met a lot of new people and had one of the greatest running experiences of my life, the Tuna 200!
I logged more miles this year than any year in my life, I think. Then again I’m at that age before GPS watches, smartphones and running apps. I’m certain this year was a record. Over 90% of my runs were with the Run Club and Friends. Something I’m extremely grateful for. Four people in particular are my friends Rob, Dave, Carlos and Jon. These are names you should recognize from my Marathon training. These men help keep me accountable and pushed me when I needed it the most. I’ve made good friends this past year.
In addition to logging many, many miles with those men, I can’t help but recognize everyone in the run club who I logged a lot of miles with in 2022. If you’ve met me in person, than you know that I’m horrible with names, but here we go! Anthony, Howard, Dwayne, Amy, Leah, Jennifer, Becca, Carl, Jan, Kristen, Ryan, Jason, Fely, Tony, Keith and Tina, Axel, Laura, Paula, Rhonda, Sharon, Kim and Mike, Kevin, Mike, Tiffany, Marcus, Thomas and Mandy, Kelli, Wes, Susan, Joni, Carla, Lisa, Erica & more! I know I’ve forgotten a few names and people, for that I’m sorry, it wasn’t on purpose. These are people I saw on a weekly/monthly basis in 2022.
While I was disappointed in my Marathon performance, the rest of the year was pretty good and I’m grateful I’m heading into 2023 with the ability to run even more.
Thank you! Thank you to everyone who logged a mile with me, to everyone in Clayton Area Runners and a massive Thank You to my wife for having the patience with my training. So with that, let’s take a look back at 2022.
Here’s how I tracked all my metrics in 2022.
STRAVA: I signed up for the paid subscription of Strava on December 31st, 2021. I’ve been using the app since January 1st, 2022. I believe all of my runs except one was tracked.
Apple Watch Series 3: This was my daily-watch and also my running watch until I started my Marathon training in August. At that point I moved over to COROS.
COROS Pace 2: I purchased this watch in July 2022 and started using it to track all of my training runs for my Marathon in November 2022. I’ll give a complete gear-review in 2023 of what I’m running with and using.
