No shit, there I was minding my own business in my own bed. Sleeping soundly at 4:29am when all of a sudden, in the midst of my dream there was this loud, annoying sound. I remember thinking, “Who the hell would blast that shit in the middle of my dream?”. As I managed to struggle to my side, I remembered what kind of asshole would do that.
It was me.
As this is Day One of my journey, I decided to stumble onto the scale. “Remarkable” I thought as I stared down at those three numbers. While they were tiny numbers compared to my feet, the numbers displayed could have easily been the proper size for Times Square.
232.8 lbs.
Well that fucking sucks. My Personal Record for all time heaviest weight was 238lbs. I’m only 5lbs off my max. This is not good my friends. I know what will cure that, getting on the track at 5:15am and running my fat-ass off then choosing not to eat everything when I get home. Not only do I need to be in a serious caloric deficit for the next 90 days, I also need to intake nutrient dense foods. It’ll be a double-whammy to the weight loss.
I arrived at the track at 5:05am and promptly got started setting up. It’s a great thing to surround yourself with good people who are selfless and team-players. As I was setting up the cones, a few other runners promptly jumped in and started moving hurdles and ensuring the track was clear. It was a good start to the morning.
We had almost 20 runners on the track this morning for our “Run Before The Sun” Track training program that lasts 3 months. It was an incredible turnout with a few new faces. After some dynamic warmups we dove head-first into the program.
Overall it was 12 laps broken up into different effort levels and distances. Long story short, I didn’t puke on the track or even start dry heaving. That means I could have gone just a little bit faster.
Overall my fastest lap was 1:42 in lane 4, so that’s about a 6’57” pace. My fastest 0.5mi was 4:15 which isn’t too fast but for a man who is +230 at 5’8”, honestly I’m a little impressed with myself. Then I got home and went to the pull-up bar.
It was disgusting. Really embarrassing to be honest. I couldn’t even get 1 pull up in. This was free-hanging, arms extended, palms facing out and no kipping. Just a strict pull-up. I failed. I couldn’t even get my chin up over the bar. 230lbs is fucking heavy.
Let’s see where I am in 90 days.
EATING
Day 1:
Muscle Milk Protein Shake (170c) + Half Banana (45c), Sargento Snack Pack (190c). Black Grapes (104c), 1x Granny Smith Apple w/2tbsp Peanut Butter, Liquid IV, Roasted Turkey Lunchmeat w/spicey mustard and 2x pieces of cheese.
Day 2: Frappuccino (starbucks), Oatmeal, Yogurt, 2x Large Eggs, Cobb Salad, 1/2 Lenny & Larry’s Complete Cookie, Apple w/ peanut butter and 1x Arepa (salmon). Probably drank 5 bottles of water today as well if not more.
Wednesday
The struggle is real. Daily. It’s not easy. I’m starting to think I’m addicted to food and consistently over-eat. Not sure why I’m always thinking about food, I hate it. I always feel hungry, at least I think I’m hungry. Obviously I’m not, I simply just overeat.
Since it’s Wednesday, I had to complete my obligatory 5K. It’s something I’m committed to. It’s also a welcome break, mid-week, from all of the obligations and responsibilities of adulting.
Overall it was a decent run. Unfortunately I felt fat and slow, like trying to run through a thick fog that was determined that every movement forward would require maximal effort. I was fortunate to run with my friend Dave again and we decided on a 9’30”-10’00” min/mile for the 5KM route. When it was all done and said we finished with a 9’34” avg pace.
3.15mi | 30’13” | Avg Pace 9’34” | Mile 1: 9’19” | Mile 2: 9’35” | Mile 3: 9’47”
After the run the great taste of a good sour or wheat beer was calling my name. The cool, bubbly beverage was calling to me like a Siren in the Odyssey. I simply had to refuse and move on with my life, after all it was SURVIVOR NIGHT. Season 44 of Survivor was premiering tonight and that’s something I simply can’t miss with my son.
Onward to Thursday and Day 3 of this 90 day journey!
